01 / What each feature solves

JLPT Vocabulary N5–N1

01

One card, several memory cues

Connect Japanese spelling, a picture, pronunciation, meaning and an example. The point is to recognise and use the word, not only memorise an isolated translation.

02

Swipe, then check with a quiz

Swipe right for familiar words and left for uncertainty. Follow with meaning and reading questions: feeling familiar is different from recalling the answer.

03

Mistakes return to the workflow

Missed words reappear in later practice, and previously studied words return for review. It reduces manual list-making; it does not promise that forgetting disappears.

04

Study by context or word type

Choose a level, one of 13 contexts, a part of speech, favourites or mistakes. Target the vocabulary you need rather than restart an entire course.

05

Make use of time at your desk

Auto-advancing cards show readings, meanings and examples. iPhone widgets can also appear on the Home Screen, Lock Screen and StandBy; iOS still controls widget refresh scheduling.

06

No account; search and prepare for offline study

Search in Japanese, kana, romaji or Chinese and save words. Download the relevant pictures and audio before going offline. Progress lives on your device, so keep a backup when moving devices.

Who it suits — and when to choose something else

A good fit

For learners who want ready-made JLPT-level content, illustrated cards, audio examples and a clearly bounded one-time purchase.

Consider another tool

This is not a general-purpose Japanese dictionary, a speaking tutor or a complete JLPT listening-and-reading mock-test course. Combine tools when those are your main needs.

04 / Free access and purchases

What is free, what is paid

A product-choice and workflow guide. Visit the dedicated site for the full service.

All 1,273 N5 words and the kana course are free; no registration is required.

N4–N1 unlock with one in-app purchase. No subscription or advertising. Your local App Store displays the applicable price.

Vocabulary and grammar are separate apps. A vocabulary purchase does not include grammar, listening or reading products.

FAQ

Before you download

Is 10,291 an official JLPT syllabus?

No. It is the number of entries in this product, organised by level for study—not an official promise of complete exam coverage.

Can I use it without a subscription?

Yes. N5 and kana are free, and N4–N1 use a one-time purchase instead of an auto-renewing subscription.

Do pictures and audio work offline?

Download the relevant media while online first. Assets that have not been downloaded will not become available simply by going offline.

Don’t other apps also offer review and widgets?

They do. Aptenyo’s proposition is the combination of ready-made N5–N1 illustrated cards, pronunciation, examples, swipe-and-quiz practice, free N5 and one-time unlocking—not exclusive ownership of those features.

How it compares

MOJi emphasises dictionary and word-list use. Migii covers a broader set of exam skills. Aptenyo Vocabulary focuses on choosing a level, learning the cards and returning for review, without an account requirement or subscription.
